Long post alert!
Misfits. Jesus chose misfits to spread the Good News.
That’s how I feel. A misfit. I don’t measure up most of the time. I’m not gorgeous, athletic or talented. I grew up as the last to be chosen.
The most touching stories for me are when someone is unexpectedly chosen. Like the woman bent over for 18 years. Luke’s gospel tells us she was crippled by a spirit. (Luke 13:10-17)
Could that be a mindset?
Maybe the spirit gradually weighed her down with thoughts of inadequacy-until she was finally so hunched over with false beliefs about herself that it was impossible to stand tall.
Yet, one day Jesus noticed her and called her forth. He touched her, as if to say, “stand tall, look what you’ve been missing!”
“If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth and the truth will set you free.” (John 8:31-32)
Jesus touched my misfit life and I am still working on my posture each day. There’s only one thing I need to believe and that’s what God says about me.
I’m chosen, on God’s team and welcome at His table! And so are you!
